Pulman Sponsor: Team ‘No Retreat’ Take on the Four-Peaks on a World’s First Record Breaking Challenge
From the foot of Snowdon to the summit of Ben Nevis, team ‘No Retreat’ take on the four-peaks on a world’s first record breaking challenge.
Katherine Wilkins and Martin Johnston will be taking on a world’s first, rowing between Wales, England, Northern Ireland and Scotland, and then hiking the highest mountain in each country along the way: Snowdon, Scafell Pike, Slieve Donard and Ben Nevis. Four countries, with a minimum of 888 hours of rowing and nearly 14,500 feet to climb!
Both Martin and Katherine are non-rowers and had never done more than 15 minutes on a concept two rowing machines just fourteen weeks ago. They hadn’t even been in an ocean rowing boat until ten weeks ago.
“I am a keen cyclist and was going to cycle the Three Peaks this summer. I wanted something more challenging and totally out of my comfort zone, as we were both non-rowers, and realised that the three peak challenge had never been completed in a rowing boat,” said Katherine, 27 from Hexham.
“We decided to add Northern Ireland because not only would it add to the difficulty of the challenge as it would mean crossing the Irish sea, but it was lovely that it would then be the whole United Kingdom.”
Katherine founder of The Retreat, will be attempting this world’s first challenge alongside head trainer Martin, 30 from Haltwhistle and a former Royal Marine Commando.
“I knew I needed someone I could trust entirely and someone that wouldn’t give up when it was tough, that is why I asked Martin to join me, who immediately without hesitation said yes. We have been a concrete team since.”
The ‘No Retreat’ team will be attempting the challenge in support of the charity MIND. As the challenge will be funded by corporate sponsors, this means that every penny of the funds raised will go to the charity. Visit their JustGiving page to donate.
The Gold Sponsor helping to support this record-breaking challenge is the Pulman Group. A family-run car retailer representing Volkswagen, SEAT, CUPRA, SKODA and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles across the Northeast of England. The Pulman logo will appear on the forward cabin and will help lead the way.
Chris Slater, Commercial Director at Pulman Group, said: “We are delighted to support Katherine and Martin on their epic fundraising challenge. A world’s first! All in aid of the fantastic charity MIND, for better mental health.
When commenting on choosing the charity MIND, Katherine said, “we are both enormously passionate about the benefits of exercise and the great outdoors for mental wellbeing, which is why we are raising for MIND. Making mental health a priority has never been more important.
We are enormously grateful for the support from Pulman Group. We are delighted to have them on board and look forward to sharing the experience of our expedition on our return.”
The ‘No Retreat’ United Kingdom Four Peak Row challenge, starts on Thursday 3rd of June, at the Foot of Snowdon, Wales. Wishing Katherine and Martin the best of luck on their epic journey.
