This year has seen 3 new recruits join the seniors golf team which is fantastic news for the club! To find out a little bit more about the new recruits we have gathered some interesting facts about their golfing history and why they have chosen to join Durham County Golf Union Seniors!

David Moralee

A member of Heworth Golf Club, former County match play champion, David has played golf for 50 years! Last year he thoroughly enjoyed competing in the Seniors Championship which is why he has joined Durham Seniors and is looking forward to meeting up with and playing against old county colleagues.

Ian Hendry

Ian has been a member of Seaton Carew Golf Club since 1986 but has played serious golf since 1996 when other sports took a back seat. Ian is looking to extend his competitive playing career and is looking forward to play on other courses as well as meeting new players who he hasn’t met before!

Mark Wardle

Mark started to play golf at a very young age of 10 and caught the addiction bug at 13 until he was 21! He resumed at the age of 42 and is a member of South Shields Golf Club. Mark recently retired and feels he now has the time to give the commitment required to the County team and is looking forward to enjoying a high standard of golf as well as the team support with playing team golf.

While the Durham Seniors dropped by our Sunderland Volkswagen site for their 2019 team photo we caught up with Keith McAllister, Captain of the team. He explained that this season consists of 5 county matches against Northumberland, Lancashire, Cumbria, Cheshire and Yorkshire (3 home and 2 away matches) followed by the qualifying Championship match at the beginning of September. At the final match, also known as the BIG 6, the top 6 players are selected to play and will go to the national finals. There’s some exciting matches ahead for the team!
