Volkswagen unveiled the all-electric ID. Buzz at the World Premiere on Wednesday 9th March 2022. It’s been a long-anticipated wait for the futuristic electric vehicle; five years after it was shown in concept at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show.

The fully electric ID. Buzz initially will be launched this year with a 77kWh battery as standard. The official range has not yet been announced, but Volkswagen have hinted at around 250 miles (based on WLTP). In 2023, there are plans to offer a larger 111kWh unit!

The battery can be charged via multiple ports including 11kW (household), up to 22kW (AC system) and up to 170kW (DC system). The new ID. Buzz will also support the new bi-directional charging on a DC wall box which will allow you to use the ID. Buzz to directly power household appliances or top-up home batteries.

Specification

There are three specification levels planned for the new ID. Buzz which are Pure, Pro and Packs. There are a range of different colour schemes to choose from to help break up the larger surface areas including a new two-tone treatment.

The minimalist dashboard is uniquely designed and positioned and offers both a 5.3-inch digital instrument display alongside a standard 10-inch infotainment touchscreen system. Unlike the ID.3, ID.4 and ID.5 where the gear selection is placed high on the instrument display, the ID. Buzz features the gear selection lever mounted on the steering column.

Volkswagen have announced the fully electric van will offer up to eight USB ports and an optional inductive smartphone charging pad to keep you connected with the world when you’re on your travels. Just like the other ID. models, the ID. Buzz will offer Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates via the embedded SIM card; taking away the need for you to visit a workshop for each software update.

The new Volkswagen ID. Buzz will offer over 30 driver assistance systems to ensure your drives run smoothly and safely. Assistance systems include Car2X technology communication, Travel Assist and local hazard warnings.

Storage & Space

As expected, the new electric ID. Buzz offers vast storage space throughout. There’s a compartment which hinges down from the base of the dashboard which opens out to reveal two large drink holders. There’s also a ‘Buzz Box’ in the centre console which contains a bottle opener and ice scraper, plus the door trims feature larger bins.

The rear seats fold in a 60:40 configuration but unfortunately they can’t be removed to extend luggage capacity. The standard wheelbase ID. Buzz model will offer up to 1,121 litres of space underneath the cargo blind and this will increase to 2,205 when the rear back seats are folded.

When can you order the new Volkswagen ID. Buzz in the UK?

At first there will be two variants available, ID. Buzz (passenger) and ID. Buzz Cargo (Commercial Vehicle). Both of which will be initially available in a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive guise. The power comes from the same electric motor which are currently used in the recent ID models, offering 201bhp and 228lb ft of torque.

In 2023, more powerful models are set to join the line-up and in 2024 an ID. Buzz California camper van will be added to the range.

The new Volkswagen ID. Buzz is expected to go on sale in the UK in May and first deliveries are planned to begin in October 2022. The ID. Buzz MPV van which has a longer wheelbase and offer up to three row of seats will open for order in 2023.

Although Volkswagen UK haven’t announced the official prices of the new Volkswagen ID. Buzz, the line-up will start at around £40,000 for the van and the MPV will start from around £50,000.
